About the role
As a Recovery Specialist at RWJBarnabas Health, you will become part of a purpose-driven environment where lived experience, compassion, and peer support create meaningful change every day. Your role involves providing non-clinical individual and group support to develop a recovery care plan, educating individuals on recovery models, and cultivating supportive tools to enhance recovery.
Responsibilities
- Engage clients and patients with non-clinical support, building trust and connection by sharing your own lived experience with recovery.
- Conduct client and patient screenings to gather relevant history and document information within the electronic health record in accordance with IFPR guidelines.
- Create individualized recovery support plans based on patient needs, screening results, and social determinants of health.
- Connect clients and patients with non-clinical, SDOH-related services and community resources that support their recovery.
- Serve as a positive role model by establishing and maintaining supportive relationships with clients, patients, and their families.
- Provide education on how to navigate treatment, social services, and recovery support systems, while coordinating with IFPR Patient Navigators and hospital staff to ensure the navigation to treatment is successful.
- Empower individuals to make self-determined, self-directed choices about their recovery pathway.
- Facilitate recovery support meetings and groups designed to engage, motivate, and empower participants.
- Complete timely, accurate documentation and reporting to support grant compliance and continuity of care.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in guiding principles of recovery.
- The ability to travel within a 60-mile radius of the assigned hospital for cross coverage when needed.
- A Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) certification through the NAADAC organization within 6 months of employment.
- Bilingual ability, previous experience as a Recovery Specialist or in a related role, and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook are preferred.
