Recovery Specialist - Jersey City, NJ
About the role
The Recovery Specialist at RWJBarnabas Health is a full-time position working three 12-hour night shifts per week. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in recovery principles. Applicants must also hold or be able to obtain a Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) certification within six months of employment.
Responsibilities
- Engage clients and patients with non-clinical support, building trust and connection through shared lived experiences
- Conduct client and patient screenings to gather relevant history and document information in the electronic health record according to IFPR guidelines
- Create individualized recovery support plans based on patient needs, screening results, and social determinants of health
- Connect clients and patients with non-clinical, SDOH-related services and community resources that support their recovery
- Serve as a positive role model by establishing and maintaining supportive relationships with clients, patients, and their families
- Provide education on navigating treatment, social services, and recovery support systems, coordinating with IFPR Patient Navigators and hospital staff to ensure successful navigation to treatment
- Empower individuals to make self-determined, self-directed choices about their recovery pathway
- Facilitate recovery support meetings and groups designed to engage, motivate, and empower participants
- Complete timely, accurate documentation and reporting to support grant compliance and continuity of care
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must be passionate about serving as a role model, advocate, and motivator for individuals navigating recovery from substance-use disorder. Bilingual ability, previous experience as a Recovery Specialist or in a related role, and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook are preferred.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in recovery principles
- Nationally Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) certification through the NAADAC organization within six months of employment
- Ability to travel within a 60-mile radius of the assigned hospital for cross coverage
