Riverside Senior Life’s Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, creating a welcoming and professional atmosphere in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff; provide accurate information and route them to appropriate departments.
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming calls; manage messages in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate housekeeping or maintenance concerns via walkie-talkie.
  • Assist with confirming appointments in coordination with the Care-A-Van schedule and drivers.
  • Perform clerical duties: filing, photocopying, scanning, managing office supplies, and placing supply orders.
  • Provide basic information to patients and visitors regarding facility services, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the Business Office Manager or Administrator by collecting payments and ensuring accurate deposits.
  • Handle all patient information in strict compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to infection control, safety, abuse, neglect, and resident privacy.
  • Complete assigned training modules and courses in the Learning Management System to stay current on policies and industry standards.
  • Assist with special administrative projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked reception area.
  • Help organize meetings, conferences, or special events held within the facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a receptionist or customer service role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in office administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in medical office administration or similar is a plus.

Schedule

Primarily inside, 8 hours per day under normal office conditions (temperature, lighting, noise, humidity).

Physical & Sensory Requirements

  • Exposure: Limited exposure to chemicals (refer to MSDS manual), blood/body fluids, TB/airborne pathogens; extensive use of video display terminals.
  • OSHA Compliance: Adherence to OSHA regulations, including safe workspace, ergonomics, PPE, bloodborne pathogens standards, and exposure control.
  • Sensory:
    • Speech: Essential for communication, presentations, training, telephone calls, meetings, and resident/family interactions.
    • Vision: Required for reading, computer entry, and accurate documentation.
    • Smell: Useful for identifying electrical or fire hazards.
    • Hearing: Necessary for telephone communication, meetings, alarms, and emergency procedures.
    • Touch: Required for writing, computer entry, and filing.
  • Activity/Lifting:
    • Physical activity distribution: 50% sitting, 17% standing, 17% walking, 5% bending, 4% twisting, 2% kneeling, 2% squatting, 2% lifting, 1% reaching above shoulders.
    • Lifting requirements: Occasionally up to 10–35 lbs; seek assistance or use equipment for weights above 35 lbs.
    • Repetitive use of hands: Frequent simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation (typing, data entry).
