About the role
The Receiving & Sales Associate is responsible for receiving, sorting, and pricing donated goods while delivering excellent customer service. This role supports both back-of-house receiving operations and front-of-house interactions, including answering questions, sharing Kitchens for Good's mission, and occasionally operating the cash register.
Responsibilities
- Greet donors warmly and safely receive donated items.
- Sort, inspect, and categorize donations following quality and safety guidelines.
- Price merchandise accurately according to established procedures.
- Organize processed items for timely placement on the sales floor.
- Maintain a clean and safe receiving and processing area.
- Follow all safe lifting and equipment-handling protocols.
- Follow established opening and closing procedures.
- Answer customer questions regarding merchandise, pricing, and store policies.
- Share Kitchens for Good's mission and programs with donors and shoppers.
- Aid customers on the sales floor by providing product information and support.
- Process customer transactions accurately, including handling a variety of payment types, processing returns and exchanges, and balancing the cash register in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Respond to customer complaints professionally, ensuring issues are addressed or escalated appropriately.
- Restock shelves and support visually appealing merchandise displays.
- Welcome and support volunteers working in receiving, sorting, merchandising, and events.
- Provide hands-on training to volunteers on store procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
- Communicate volunteer progress or needs to supervisors.
- Assist with planning, setup, and breakdown for small in-store events and donor engagement activities.
- Prepare materials, merchandise, or displays needed for events.
- Provide onsite customer support and hospitality during events.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth event logistics.
- Communicate effectively with team members about donations, inventory, and operational needs.
- Assist with general store upkeep, cleanliness, and safety.
- Support loss-prevention procedures.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, mission-driven team environment.
