Receiving Clerk
About the Role
Unloads, inspects, counts, and receives deliveries from suppliers. After confirming that material is received in good condition, completes receiving paperwork and applies internal labels to material. Completes the receiving process in the ERP system, attaches all documents related to delivery to the Goods Received Note (GRN), and files per work instructions. Moves received material to storage bins available to production.
Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Responsibilities
- Ensures daily internal controls are followed; performs self-assessment tests as required; develops corrective actions with the management team to address deficiencies.
- Acts as a liaison between Logistics and Production.
- Generates all necessary paperwork for daily receipts; signs off on Truckers Bill of Lading (BOL).
- Provides documentation to the accounting department as requested; maintains receiving log (manual/Excel).
- Assists plant with physical inventory as needed.
- Audits shipments for accuracy and verifies load amounts.
- Labels material, if not already labeled with a barcode; prepares goods for bin location storage.
- Records shipment data, including weight, customer freight charges, and space availability (utilization).
- Notes all discrepancies; reviews documents and freight for errors or damages and reports to carrier and supplier.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred but not required.
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- Able to read and write in English (preferred but not required).
- Basic math skills with the ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to compare actual measurements to specifications and determine product quality.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
- Ability to work in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to change.
- Good hand/eye coordination.
- Forklift experience preferred but not required; must be willing to learn to drive a forklift.
