About the role
The position involves counting and signing for delivered goods, verifying freight bills and purchase orders, inspecting the condition of goods for quality, entering counts into the computer system, printing and applying pallet tags, and providing a high level of member service.
Responsibilities
- Set dock restraints to lock the trailer to the receiving dock by pushing buttons and monitoring lights.
- Count and check merchandise against freight bills.
- Open boxes and cartons with box knives to verify product and counts.
- Sign freight bill as the second receiver.
- Stack bed‑loaded merchandise or merchandise from damaged or unacceptable pallets onto Costco‑approved pallets.
- Separate mixed‑item pallets for checking.
- Use a gun to order the printing of pallet tags and UPC stickers.
- Notify the Receiving Manager of any mismarked, damaged, or mis‑shipped items.
- Re‑label bad UPC products.
- Wrap pallets of double‑received goods with plastic wrap for transport to the floor or steel by forklift drivers.
- Create and attach pallet tags.
- Load merchandise and empty pallets onto trucks using a manual pallet jack and hand truck.
- Assist in unloading trucks and first receiving.
- Clean up and clear the receiving dock of any debris or trip hazards.
- Follow safety procedures.
- Monitor all merchandise into and out of the building.
- Monitor people entering or leaving the building prior to opening for secure building access and follow security procedures.
- Help members load large items in their carts, direct members to products, and provide product status information.
- Ensure proper cleanup of potentially hazardous material spills.
- Operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery as needed.
- Assist with department duties as necessary.
- Assist in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.
