Job Summary

Maintains racing receiving barns. Directly supervises: None.

How You Will Create The Extraordinary

  • Supervises the stabling of horses in the receiving barn which ships into train or race.
  • Affirm that each horse has a clean stall.
  • Requires the removal of hay or shavings and manure to a wheel barrel and then transporting wheel barrel to manure bins.
  • Keeps area clean and free of trash.
  • Includes raking of shed row and exterior of building as well as removal of trash, weeds, grass, etc.
  • When asked, will clean other stable barns/stalls prior to arrival of trainers shipping in to be stabled at Hoosier Park.
  • Produces reports that show where each horse is too stable while in the receiving barn.
  • Reports on any unsafe conditions.
  • Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions.

What You Will Need

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Proficient in English verbal and written.
  • Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have an outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Must be comfortable initiating conversations and a fun environment for guests.
  • Flexible to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays if applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, reach, and kneel repetitively.
  • Specific vision abilities such as close, distance, color, depth and ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to ascend and descend stairs and maintain equilibrium for an extended period.
  • Able to work from a standing position and/or walking motion for extended period.
  • Able to read limited numbers of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Able to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Able to speak effectively before a group of customers or employees.
  • Able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Promote a positive influence in the company and company sponsored events.
  • Maintain a professional work environment with management and staff.
