About the Role

Receives, stores, and distributes material, tools, equipment, and products within establishments.

Responsibilities

  • Unloads incoming raw material, purchased parts, and outsourced goods.
  • Weighs or counts material that is received and verifies it against the packing list.
  • Records amount of material received into the MRP system.
  • Marks materials with identifying information.
  • Opens bales, crates, and other containers.
  • Conveys materials and items from receiving to the appropriate production or storage areas.
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence (e.g., size, type, style, color, or product code).
  • Ensures all receiving paperwork is delivered to the Accounts Payable Department.
  • Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes them to production workers or assembly line.
  • Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department.
  • Uses computer to enter records.
  • Prepares parcels for mailing.
  • Maintains inventory records.
  • Loads products in preparation for shipping.
  • Reads tape measure accurately.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience as a Shipping/Warehouse worker.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole, fractional, and decimal numbers).
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to handle problems involving variables in standardized situations and make decisions, including knowing when/where to make concessions.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to talk or hear.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Frequently works in outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
