About the role

The Receiving Assistant supports the Receiving Manager in operating the receiving department, prioritizing world-class customer service, integrity, and adherence to company policies. This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and a schedule based on store needs, including five days and 40 hours per week. Attendance at mandatory store meetings is required. While this role includes limited Manager-on-Duty responsibilities, it is not intended to serve as the overall Manager on Duty.

Responsibilities

  • Provide world-class customer service as the top priority.
  • Assist the Receiving Manager in accurately receiving all incoming products, including checking dates, accuracy, and damage.
  • Scan all incoming and outgoing products and stage them for efficient delivery to the sales floor.
  • Process purchase orders (POs), return purchase orders (RPOs), mispicks, invoices, and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in deliveries or documentation.
  • Communicate with department managers regarding delivery issues, vendor out-of-stocks, and special orders.
  • Operate a forklift and pallet jack as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized back room.
  • Support store opening and closing activities, including the Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities.
  • Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing complaints, and covering shift changes or breaks.
  • Assist in training and monitoring department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks.
  • Provide backup support on the sales floor when receiving duties are complete.
  • Answer customer questions according to company standards and policies, including the use of structure/function statements or nutritional support statements.
  • Continually increase product knowledge.
  • Use SAP, inventory management software, email, and other IS programs as needed.
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in grocery, retail, or a receiving environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and maintain compliance with certifications as required by law.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
  • Strong sense of urgency in completing tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Cashier trained and able to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Capabilities and Environmental Demands

  • Lifting/Carrying: Constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs., frequently lift or carry 11-20 lbs., and occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. Occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs. and occasionally push or pull 16-100 lbs.
  • Movement: Constantly walk, stand, use fine motor manipulations, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift. Frequently reach above chest. Occasionally sit, squat, kneel, climb, and use a computer for data entry.
  • Environmental: Frequently work with sharp tools and equipment, dust, fumes, and congested worksites. Occasionally work with noise, cold, heat, wet/humid conditions, outside environments, heights, and contact stress.

USD $19.50 per hour.
