About the role

The Receiving Assistant supports the Receiving Manager in operating the receiving department while prioritizing world-class customer service, integrity, and excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the receiving department manager in accurately receiving all incoming products, including date, accuracy, and damage checks
  • Scan all incoming and outgoing product
  • Stage products for efficient delivery to the sales floor
  • Process POs, RPOs, mispicks, invoices, and paperwork timely and accurately
  • Research and process all discrepancies
  • Communicate with department managers regarding delivery issues and vendor out-of-stocks
  • Follow up on special orders
  • Operate a forklift and pallet jack as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized back room
  • Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report (DSR), cash handling, and cashier closeout responsibilities
  • Handle register functions, including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes
  • Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees
  • Assist in training and monitoring department personnel, including assigning and following up on tasks
  • Provide additional help and backup in the store, including working on the sales floor when receiving duties are complete
  • Answer customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of Structure/Function statements and/or statements of nutritional support
  • Increase product knowledge continually
  • Use SAP, inventory management software, email, and other IS programs as needed
  • Work a schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Work five days, 40 hours per week, and attend mandatory store meetings
  • Perform limited Manager on Duty responsibilities, though never as the overall Manager on Duty

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred
  • 1 year of experience in grocery/retail or receiving environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus
  • 1 year of experience supervising others preferred
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks
  • Sense of urgency in completing tasks
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and follow through
  • Cashier trained and able to count currency
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
