Role Our Reality Capture team has an opening for a Reality Capture 3D Laser Scanning Specialist. This role could be based in the following studios: DallasFort WorthHoustonOmaha About Reality Capture At DLR Group The Reality Capture team utilizes a combination of lidar 3D scans, photogrammetry, photographs, and construction documents to create 3D models that elevate accuracy and safety throughout the lifecycle of our projects. Reality capture delivers ultra-precise documentation that captures details invisible to traditional methods. From historic preservation to commercial development, reality capture accelerates design phases and reduces costs. Position Summary As a Reality Capture 3D Laser Scanning Specialist, you will use advanced 3D laser scanning, drone capture, and reality capture technologies to document existing buildings and environments and transform field data into accurate digital models. Working closely with integrated design teams, you will combine technical expertise, an understanding of building documentation, and attention to detail to deliver reliable data that informs design decisions. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about emerging technology, enjoys working in both field and office environments, and is motivated to advance the use of reality capture across the built environment. What You Will Do Perform field 3D laser scanning, registration, processing, and delivery of point cloud data for use by internal project teams and external clientsOperate a variety of 3D laser scanning and reality capture equipment to accurately and efficiently document existing buildings, sites, and spacesProcess, align, and integrate point cloud data with BIM/Revit models, performing QA/QC to ensure accuracy and alignmentParticipate in drone capture, photogrammetry processing, and delivery of video, still imagery, and digital models based on project requirementsEvaluate existing building conditions, construction documents, and project requirements to determine appropriate capture methods and workflowsSupport BIM/Revit modeling and coordinate reality capture deliverables in accordance with project, company, and client standardsApply Level of Accuracy (LOA) and Level of Detail (LOD) requirements to reality capture and BIM deliverablesEstablish and integrate survey control into reality capture workflows when requiredCollaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and other project teams to define capture requirements, schedules, deliverables, and technical solutionsChampion reality capture technologies across the firm by identifying opportunities to improve workflows, expand capabilities, and grow reality capture services Required Qualifications College or trade school education in architecture, surveying, construction, or a related AEC field, or equivalent relevant experience5+ years of professional experience with 3D laser scanning, field capture, registration, and processing of laser scan survey data surveyHands-on experience with laser scanning equipment, including field capture, registration, processing, and delivery of point cloud dataProfessional experience with Autodesk Revit and working knowledge of Navisworks, AutoCAD, ReCap, and other industry-standard BIM/CAD toolsExperience with point cloud registration and processing software and integrating 3D scan data into BIM/Revit workflowsStrong understanding of building components, existing conditions documentation, and construction drawingsUnderstanding of Level of Accuracy (LOA) and Level of Detail (LOD) standards and their application to reality capture and BIM deliverablesAbility to perform QA/QC of scan data, point clouds, and BIM/scan alignmentAbility to manage multiple projects, project teams, and deadlines concurrentlyAbility to travel frequently, both locally and nationally, including overnight and short-term travelMust be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of professional Autodesk Revit experienceFAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and experience with drone capture and photogrammetryUSIBD Building Documentation Certification, CSI, Autodesk, or other relevant industry certification, or actively working toward certificationAdvanced experience with reality capture and registration technologies such as NavVis, Leica Cyclone/Register 360, Field 360, CloudWorx, Cintoo, FARO, or similar platformsExperience establishing and integrating survey control for reality capture projectsExperience aligning photogrammetry and point cloud data with BIM modelsFamiliarity with Civil 3D, InfraWorks, Autodesk Forma, Dynamo, Esri, or similar technologiesEntrepreneurial mindset with an interest in advancing technology, improving workflows, and growing reality capture services Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position, including temporary visas such as E, F-1 (including OPT and CPT), TN, J, H-1B, or those who need employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
