About the role

UCLA Extension is one of the nation’s leading providers of continuing education, serving over 35,000 students annually through approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs. This course introduces students to the steps required to conceive and execute residential and commercial development projects. Upon completion, students should be able to discuss terminology, components, and processes for managing such projects, including project organization, scheduling, financial feasibility, zoning, financing, and project management. The course prepares students to work with developers, builders, and financial organizations involved in the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or update course syllabus in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director using the approved syllabus template.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials and learning assessments in assigned format (in-person, online, or hybrid).
  • Utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as the course support platform for in-person courses and as the delivery platform for online and hybrid courses.
  • Communicate teaching objectives, specific learning outcomes, and grading policies clearly to students.
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes and assign grades.
  • Post final student grades to the transcript system within two weeks of the last course meeting.
  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain timely communication with Program Director, Program Representatives, and Online Course Managers.
  • Stay current with the professional body of knowledge in real estate development, construction, and management.
  • Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs.
  • Complete administrative tasks promptly, including hiring paperwork, quarterly syllabus updates, bio and photo submission, contract signing, textbook ordering, and AV/classroom needs communication.
  • Employ culturally competent teaching methodologies inclusive of domestic and international student populations.
  • Address student inquiries about final grades and consult with the Program Director as needed.
  • Allow students to review their final exams/papers for up to 13 months following the last class session.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the highest level of academic standards and integrity.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) instructional technology and online teaching tools.
  • Current participation in professional associations.
  • Comfort in dealing with international professionals and students.

Preferred qualifications

  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience designing or revising curriculum and measuring student performance.
  • College-level teaching experience (or corporate equivalent).
