Real Estate Appraiser
About the role
The Real Estate Appraiser position with the Department of Transportation supports highway improvement projects by researching property details, conducting site visits, and developing fair and accurate appraisals. The role helps ensure that land acquisitions meet legal standards, reflect true market conditions, and move public improvements forward while supporting property owners with fairness.
Responsibilities
- Investigate ownership records, easements, covenants, and deed descriptions to understand all relevant details.
- Visit affected properties and collect information relating to market value, depreciation, liens, judgments, and property features.
- Apply appropriate appraisal methods to establish accurate property values.
- Assist with preparing damage estimates and support project staff through appraisal reviews and analyses.
- Develop market value estimates by reviewing comparable sales, zoning restrictions, market trends, and environmental factors.
- Provide clear information to property owners, legal staff, municipal officials, and claim settlement agents.
Work Schedule
Full‑time employment. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. No telework option is available.
Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin at a starting annual salary of $53,008.00 (before taxes).
Qualifications
- Active Pennsylvania Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser certification.
- Active motor vehicle license.
- Must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
