About the Role
This position is responsible for all sales and sales-related activities in the assigned territory, including customer care, monitoring market trends, forecasting, and accurate reporting.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships with all people who influence purchasing decisions.
- Understand established models for pricing and quoting.
- Develop and maintain a list of target and development customers to meet new sales goals.
- Meet or exceed new and retention sales volume goals.
- Engage in in-person interactions with customers at offices and job sites as necessary.
- Gain and maintain a reputation for sound business acumen with business owners and decision-makers.
- Understand customer needs and set expectations correctly.
- Track current trends in the national and local economy and understand their impact on the local ready-mix market.
- Compile detailed competitive and industry information.
- Assist customers and Quality Control with required mix design submittals.
- Proactively maintain open communication regarding customer requirements and expectations with plant, dispatch, quality, and management personnel.
- Assist in the implementation of company marketing plans as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities, including sales calls, presentations, closed sales, and follow-up activities.
- Provide timely reports, such as monthly activity reports and expense reports.
- Assist the Credit Department with collections.
- Assist the Dispatch Department in scheduling customer deliveries.
- Proactively work with Operations/Plant Manager to ensure product availability and conformity.
- Maintain a high level of urgency to resolve customer concerns or problems fairly and to their satisfaction.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes, and ensure they are communicated and implemented within the team.
- Attend industry-related events and participate in trade associations, Chambers of Commerce, and local economic development groups.
- Share expertise and experience with other sales team members.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of sales experience, preferably in the construction materials industry.
- Ability to spontaneously discuss industry, market, and product knowledge with a variety of audiences.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to influence and drive decision-making as appropriate.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Team-player both internally and externally.
- Mid-level skill with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Clean driving record for the last five years; must provide a current AZ Driver’s License.
- Must be insurable under the company vehicle insurance program; will be issued a company vehicle.
- Must adhere to company drug and alcohol policy; subject to company random testing program due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience with Public Entities (state, county, city governments, etc.) is a plus.
- Background in construction and/or manufacturing of construction products is preferred.
- Familiarity with CRM and customer contact databases is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP (SAP) is preferred.
