Reading Specialist, Unbound Academy (Remote) - $60,000/year USD

About the Role

Unbound is a remote-first online school designed for measurable progress, not compliance with seat time. We're rethinking student learning so they advance more quickly, engage meaningfully, and graduate with demonstrable confidence. In a typical week, you'll facilitate high-impact intervention sessions and conduct brief motivation check-ins that help students stay focused and reach their targets. This position is ideal for those who value independence, immediate feedback, and visible results. It's not suitable for anyone seeking scripted instruction or who avoids working with data.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate virtual small-group and individual reading intervention sessions for students in grades 3–8
• Analyze reading assessment data to identify fluency and comprehension deficits and modify instruction promptly
• Tailor learning activities to accommodate varied reading levels, including interventions for dyslexia and associated reading challenges
• Monitor student progress systematically and apply insights to inform subsequent sessions
• Conduct structured motivation check-ins designed to foster confidence, resilience, and pride in development
• Take ownership of outcomes for grades 3–8—quantifiable improvements in fluency and comprehension—through the delivery of personalized virtual interventions and motivational support that strengthens confidence

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Deliver large, whole-class instruction or present from a rigid curriculum
• Implement a pre-scripted program without responding to individual student needs and immediate feedback
• Serve as a passive "software monitor" lacking genuine instruction and relational engagement
• Depend on superficial incentives that fail to cultivate enduring motivation

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, literacy, or a closely related field
• Reading intervention certification or endorsement (e.g., Arizona Reading Specialist K-12 or equivalent state certification)
• Specialized training or certification in dyslexia intervention (or related structured literacy approaches)
• At least 2 years of experience delivering small-group or one-on-one reading interventions for students in grades 3–8
• Experience supporting students with dyslexia or related reading difficulties
• Ability to interpret progress monitoring data and use it to plan and adjust instruction
• Strong ability to engage and manage students in a virtual setting through clear, motivating communication
• Available to work in a hybrid capacity in Arizona as needed

Pay

The compensation level for this role is $30 USD/hour, which equates to $60,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
