SUMMARY

To implement Reading Recovery, small group instruction, and literacy lessons as interventions for at-risk students.

To assess and program for students using all the requirements of the Reading Recovery model, to work with fellow teachers collaboratively to identify and address student needs.

If not already trained as a Reading Recovery teacher, train as a teacher during the school year. Training involves course work for a full academic year while working with the individual students in a Reading Recovery setting.

Salary starting at $43,350.73

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet all the standards and guidelines of Reading Recovery Model.
  • Work effectively with at-risk students.
  • Advocate for and assist in delivering appropriate literacy intervention.
  • Collaborate with other school staff to address student and program needs.
  • Absess, record, and monitor student progress.
  • Keep complete records on each child served as a basis for instruction.
  • Consult with classroom teachers to determine if performance on assessments aligns with performance in the classroom.
  • Communicate with the teacher leader, parents, teachers, and other school personnel on a regular basis throughout the year.
  • Provide intervention to identified students for a minimum of 2 hours daily.
  • Participate in ongoing yearlong professional development.
  • Participate in school activities and programs that foster positive growth for all children.
  • Supervise students in classroom and school settings.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Maine Teaching Certificate.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in primary grades.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Interest in working with struggling readers and writers.
  • Reading Recovery training preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Education and/or Experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to complete graduate level assignments including written assignments and reading of professional literature.
  • Ability to present and analyze school data.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of technology for instruction, data analysis, and presentations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to operate equipment including but not limited to photocopying machines and computers.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, as to operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
