React Native Mobile Engineer

About the role

A nationally recognized non-profit news organization is seeking a Mobile Software Engineer to develop cutting-edge applications for iOS and Android platforms.

Responsibilities

• Owning the entire mobile experience, including React Native front-end development, Node.js backend services, App Store and Google Play deployments, streaming/video functionality, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborating directly with engineering and product teams to deliver a world-class experience to a global audience.
• Working in a small, agile team where immediate impact is felt and autonomy is valued.
• Ensuring the code directly influences the quality of independent journalism accessible to millions worldwide.

Requirements

• Strong React Native and Node.js engineering experience (3+ years)
• Solid command of JavaScript + TypeScript
• Experience deploying to App Store and Google Play, managing release workflows
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, operating within EST hours
• Understanding of mobile architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization
• Experience troubleshooting across mobile and backend systems
• Comfortable collaborating with editorial, design, and product stakeholders
• Media, streaming, or video platform experience is a plus
• Experience with live/on-demand video, CDNs, HLS/DASH, or react-native-video is a big plus

Pay

Pay range: $50 to $100 per hour, depending on experience
