Reach Forklift Operator (1st Shift - Frozen)

About the role

Responsible for moving product or materials in a frozen warehouse environment using powered tools and vehicles. Requires the ability to work in a sub-zero degree environment where one will pick orders, store and remove materials as well as any other duties as required.

Essential Functions

• Operate double reach stand up material handling equipment as well as several other types of material handling equipment.
• Load and unload product from trucks.
• Transport materials to and from storage areas throughout warehouse.
• Floor stack unitized materials in warehouse.
• Place unitized materials into storage racks.
• Deliver requisitioned materials to assembly areas.
• Record all transactions by scanning product with barcode reader.
• Transport trash from various locations throughout plant and deliver it to the proper location.
• Assist in the breaking down and restacking of pallets on receipt, when necessary.
• Perform daily pre-start check of forklift and complete check list form.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies and procedures.
• Move product and/or materials manually as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience.

Experience

• Must be certified in the operation of a forklift or able to pass a written certification test as well as demonstrate skillful use of forklift.
• Ability to operate a manual/powered pallet jack or lift product.

Training Requirements

To perform this job assignment an individual must meet the required job specific training located in the Training Register.

• Ability to read, write, communicate and comprehend basic English.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively to co-workers and supervisors, with good listening and comprehension.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

• Ability to apply and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Qualifications

• Ability to operate a lift truck safely on the floor and in racking system.
• Ability to operate a barcode reader and record all transactions in writing, as necessary.
• Ability to read and interpret a material request form and issue appropriate product to the assembly lines.
• Ability to make decisions on proper storage of product in warehouse and follow a first-in-first-out system of storing product.

• Must be able to inspect and evaluate trailers and loads being transported.
• Must be able to use hands and arms to steer and to finger controls and adjust controls as needed.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
• Must be able to climb into and out of driver’s cab of motorized truck several times a day using steps and three points of contact and walk from building to a tractor up to 50 yards, navigating stairs to loading docks.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl and squat in order to perform equipment inspections.
• Must be able to work in an environment where exposed to all recognized food allergens: dairy, nuts, egg, shellfish, soy, sulfates and wheat.
• Must have vision at least corrected to 40/20.
• Must be able to hear within speaking and industrial noise frequencies below 90 decibels.

Work Environment

• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is sometimes exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Frequently exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
• Occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and potential exposure to sulfuric acid (electric battery).
• Occasionally exposed to potential exposure to carbon monoxide from propane fueled forklift.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
