RCYCP SUPERVISOR Student Life Department
Main Purpose of Job
The RCYCP Supervisor is the supervisory level of work over those providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing students by serving as a mentor and role model, offering advice and assistance with everyday life skills and providing referrals as appropriate to other staff at the Maryland School for the Deaf.
Position Duties
- Create work schedules for staff including substitutes when necessary.
- Develop schedules for special events such as weekend tournaments or snow days, coordinate field trips, vehicle reservations and food service requests.
- Review and approve staff timesheets and overtime requests.
- Act as liaison between the school and parents/guardians, and work with specialists regarding the student's physical or emotional needs.
- Conduct building inspections and report maintenance issues, maintain inventory records.
- Assess emergency and crisis situations, make appropriate contacts and referrals, provide interim emergency medical and other assistance until specialized assistance is available.
- Conduct staff evaluations twice per year, attend Employee Performance Review meetings as needed, and attend staff meetings with the school management team and dorm staff.
- Create, execute, and maintain documentation of training for staff development on a regular basis to meet DHS and MDH requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life.
Minimum Qualifications
- Eight years of experience, four years of experience providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing youth and assisting them with everyday life skills in a residential setting, one year must have been of supervisory experience.
- An additional four years of experience working in a residential program.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Deaf Education, Special Education or the Human Science field and four years of experience providing guidance to deaf and hard of hearing youth and assisting them with everyday life skills in a residential setting for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of sixty credit hours for each year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience within a Student Life/Residential program.
Special Requirements
- Employees in this classification are required to be proficient in American Sign Language and in written English.
- Employees in this classification will be required to pass a medical examination and an annual screening for tuberculosis as a requirement of residential child care licensure by the Maryland Department of Human Services.
- Employees in this classification are required to be certified by the State Board for the Certification of Residential Child Care Program Professionals (the Board) within the first 180 of employment.
- Employees in this classification will be required to be trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first-aid training leading to certification. These certifications must be kept current as a requirement of residential child care licensure by the Maryland Department of Human Services.
- Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.
