About the role

The Federal Telecommunications Engineering Specialist leads communication designs and coordinates with other disciplines. Responsibilities include creating conceptual and detailed systems designs, managing budgets, scopes, and schedules, and mentoring less experienced staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communication designs and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Create conceptual and detailed systems designs, including producing design drawings, specifications, and design analysis deliverables
  • Coordinate with a BIM/CAD team for drawing production
  • Perform quality control duties and independent technical reviews
  • Manage assigned budgets, scopes, and schedules
  • Mentor and provide guidance/instruction to less experienced staff members
  • Other potential duties: may perform fieldwork and write assessment reports, assist with creation of design guides and templates, provide support to business development or pursuit activities

Requirements

  • Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, BICSI industry standards, codes, and best practices related to ICT, low voltage, and telecommunications systems
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems from a safety and constructability perspective
  • Experience in outside plant (OSP) design of copper and fiber optic communication systems
  • Experience in audio-visual (AV) system design
  • 4+ years of experience designing applicable telecommunication systems
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification required

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required due to the nature of the work
