Responsibilities
- Determines experimental protocols and prepares specimens and cultures.
- Compiles and analyzes findings and prepares reports.
- Oversees specimen inventory.
- Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Performs research procedures (bench and animal) in Biosafety Level 2 and 3 (BSL2/BSL3) environments.
- Carries out tasks such as viral plaque assays, real-time PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, media preparation, cell culture, record keeping, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
- Works with small laboratory animals, such as rodents, and may include other species.
- Requires basic understanding of statistical methods and Microsoft Excel.
- Needs good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must adhere strictly to BSL2/BSL3 procedures.
- May require some scheduling flexibility for animal observations.
- Might require a yellow fever vaccination.
- May require a Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins.
