About the role

Audubon Center for Birds of Prey, located in Maitland, FL, is dedicated to promoting a stewardship ethic toward Florida’s birds of prey and their habitats through medical rehabilitation, interactive education, and practical research. This internship opportunity is designed to provide an individual with a demonstrated interest in wildlife rehabilitation and clinical care with the ability to learn the operations of the Raptor Trauma Clinic and rehabilitation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical operations and procedures, including taxonomy, anatomy, feather structure, imping (feather repair), tail sheathing (protection), necropsy, pesticide poisoning, calculating medications, and fluid therapy related to raptors.
  • Learn and participate in daily examinations, treatments, and administering medications to sick and injured raptors.
  • Prepare food for clinic patients.
  • Clean and maintain raptor housing.
  • Prepare slides for laboratory examination and analysis.
  • Attend and observe surgical procedures and participate in diagnostic testing, radiology, and bird evaluations.
  • Share your experiences with others through e-newsletters, social media, etc.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Current student or recent graduate (within 3 years)
  • Background in animal science, biology, or pre-veterinary coursework is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • Prior experience with handling wildlife or animal medicine is highly desirable
  • Commitment to Audubon’s mission and programs
  • Respect for wildlife, conservation, and Florida’s environment

Qualifications and Experience

Schedule
