Responsibilities
- Prioritize patient rounding and assessments with bedside nursing collaboration.
- Utilize MEWS scores, prior medical history, and admission location information to prioritize assessment of high-risk patients.
- Evaluate patient care and hospital practices in MUSC inpatient settings to ensure compliance with policies and evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure staff, patient, and visitor public health safety.
- Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response notifications, BAT Alerts, and nurse-driven requests for clinical evaluation as needed or directed.
- Assess high-risk patients based on clinical indicators, previous critical care admissions/transfers, and PMH each shift.
- Coach real-time and provide education to staff regarding appropriate MEWS scores, high-risk indicators, and assessments of Code Blue and Rapid Response notifications.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, including nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Hospitalist Medicine providers, ICU Intensivists, and Pulmonologists, using appropriate communication and education methods.
Requirements
- Previous Critical Care or ED RN experience required.
- Able to work under stress.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
- Active South Carolina RN license.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking patient vitals, administering injections, or conducting physical exams.
- Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
- Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
- Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, as well as to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
- Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
- Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
- Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
