Range and Forestry Monitoring Specialist
About the role
This position is built for an experienced environmental scientist who understands rangeland monitoring, forest health assessment, and post-fire vegetation recovery at a senior technical level, and who's ready to bring that depth to work with statewide reach.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement range and forestry monitoring protocols
- Conduct field assessments across the state
- Analyze vegetation condition data
- Support forest health surveillance and pest and disease monitoring
- Evaluate the effectiveness of vegetation management and fuel treatment projects
- Contribute to post-fire monitoring and restoration outcomes work
- Provide the scientific ground truth that informs land management decisions across CAL FIRE
Requirements
- Strong field skills
- Clean data instincts
- The ability to translate ecological findings into actionable information for program partners
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Forest Ecology, Rangeland Management, or a related field
- At least 7 years of relevant experience in range and forestry monitoring, forest health assessment, and post-fire vegetation recovery
- Experience with range and forestry monitoring protocols and field assessment techniques
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation
- Ability to communicate complex ecological findings effectively to stakeholders

Pay
Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually
