About the role
The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) position at RailPros is responsible for providing on-site protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. Key responsibilities include coordinating job sites, communicating with train dispatchers and engineers, handling and placing safety equipment, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide required jobsite protection on each assignment, including radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers
- Ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements and grant permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed
- Prepare and submit required electronic forms such as job setup forms, daily work reports, and invoices
- Place railroad advance warning and stop signs, install derails, and apply locking devices
- Participate in safety classes and qualification training
- Maintain regular communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), a minimum of 2 years of track and/or construction experience, and hold a CP On Track Worker and Operating Rules certification. Physical demands include completing required physical tasks and effectively warning roadway workers of approaching trains.

- Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC's (Employee in Charge) and assigned work groups
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficient in electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
