Railroad Engineer

About the role

Provide a welcoming environment and offering a safe recreational and educational experience on the Zooline Railroad and employee shuttles.

Responsibilities

• Light maintenance
• Cleaning, including maintaining a first‑class appearance
• Driving the train and shuttles
• Serving as conductor and platform assistant
• Selling train tickets (cash handling may be required)
• Assisting guests boarding and disembarking trains
• Inspecting trains and shuttles for safety
• Pulling and parking trains and shuttles for storage
• Performing other duties as assigned for the Visitor Services department

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Strong communication skills
• Valid Class E driver’s license
• Pass a yearly physical
• Availability most weekends and holidays
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to withstand the physical stress of getting on and off trains frequently
• Ability to maneuver guests using wheelchairs on and off trains
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to drive shuttles in city traffic
• People skills to considerately handle guest issues within Zoo policies
• Must undergo a criminal background check and drug test
• Negative drug test result mandatory (screened for five substances, including marijuana)

Pay

This position starts at $15.50 per hour, but may increase based on experience and availability.

Schedule

Applicants must be available most weekends and holidays.
