Railroad Civil/Track Designer I

About the role

Benesch is a growing, multi-disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm that enhances infrastructure and communities across the country. As a member of the Railroad Civil/Track Design team, you will collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Technicians on Class I, short line, and commuter rail projects, contributing to track and civil design plans, specifications, and cost estimates. The position offers a Hybrid schedule and is open to candidates in Milwaukee, WI; Chicago, IL; Naperville, IL; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the creation of track and civil design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Gain experience interacting with clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders.
• Design, draft elements, integrate data, and perform fundamental analysis of project elements.
• Work on challenging design projects closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers to meet deadlines within budget.
• Accept occasional out-of-town travel to meet project demands.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering.
• Up to four years of experience in a similar capacity.
• Successful completion of the EIT/FE exam or ability to complete the exam within six months of employment.

Skills

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Working knowledge of MicroStation InRoads/OpenRoads Designer (major plus).
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Enjoy problem‑solving and learning new technical skills.
