Job Location: Northtown, Other Potential Locations: Minneapolis, MN, Anticipated Start Date: 10/26/2026, Number of Positions: 5, Salary Range: Entry rate of pay is approximately $32.96/hr; 39.24/hr full rate.

Responsibilities

• Inspecting railcar frames, bodies, safety appliances, and wheels for holes, cracks, and other defects to ensure good repair of equipment.
• Maintaining, replacing, inspecting, and repairing air brake components and ensuring air brake system equipment is compliant with current regulations.
• Operating electrical and gas welding equipment and acetylene/MAPP torches to join a variety of metals and alloys as well as cutting and shaping metal parts.
• Operating specialized off-highway motor vehicles (forklifts, mobile cranes, track mobiles, and UTVs).
• Carman/Road Truck/Emergency Response duties involve performing car repairs both at the origin point and on the road, requiring a CDL license, DOT certification, and welding certification.
• Responding to service interruptions and transportation outages, with work assignments given by the Foreman.

Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions, walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working on or around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Requirements

• Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization.
• 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
• Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
• Able to work the above shift/hours.
• Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) English.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance.
• Have a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
• Ability to visually distinguish colors and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds.
• Ability to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.
• Ability to climb ladders and get on/off equipment.
• Ability to occasionally work from various heights including making repairs on top of railcars.
• Ability to bend, walk, stand and sit occasionally with breaks.
• Follow safety policies and procedures; wear the required personal protective equipment.

Union membership is with the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and union dues are required per union agreement.
