Railcar Mover Resident Field Technician / Mechanic

Job Duties

  • Perform repair and preventive maintenance on railcar moving equipment and evaluate for other preventative maintenance items to address with the customer.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems, give recommendations for repairs and make all critical repairs and adjustments.
  • Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments.
  • Sometimes troubleshoot equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers on their repairs.
  • Develop and maintain long-lasting working relationships with customers.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required by fluctuating workloads and available for after-hours calls as needed.
  • Travel is required for training and/or to assist at other locations.

Physical & Working Requirements

  • Safely and repeatedly lift components weighing up to 115 pounds without assistance.
  • Safely lift, carry, and lower components weighing up to 65 pounds without assistance.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and carrying of heavy materials.
  • Climb on and off equipment and work at varying heights.
  • Stand, bend, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Safely operate tools and equipment.

About the Role

Foley Equipment is the authorized Caterpillar & Shuttlewagon dealer in Kansas, Colorado, and northwest Missouri. As a Railcar Mover Resident Field Technician, you’ll be the go-to expert for our customers, providing on-site troubleshooting, service, and repair of railcar movers directly at their work locations. This position operates as a Field Technician based in eastern or southeastern Colorado, allowing you to support customers throughout the region.

Qualifications

  • Basic mechanical knowledge including mechanical, electrical and hydraulics.
  • General knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments.
  • Ability to read and comprehend specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins and other related publications.
  • Experience working within the diesel mechanics industry.
  • Railcar mover maintenance and repair experience (Shuttlewagon preferred).
  • Understand crane hoist and rigging equipment (preferred).
  • Stable work history.
  • Valid Class A CDL.

Our Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have basic mechanical knowledge, general knowledge of hand tools, and ability to read and understand technical documents. They should also have experience working within the diesel mechanics industry, railcar mover maintenance and repair experience, and understanding crane hoist and rigging equipment.
