Railcar Mechanic (Olive Branch, MS)

About the Role

Performs mechanical repairs including cutting, welding, and overall mechanical work on railcars. Railcar inspections and repairs will be documented for verification and to ensure the work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Welding, cutting, and mechanical repairs
• Forklift operation
• Documenting work performed and recording material usage
• Ensuring paperwork for railcar repairs is complete and correct
• Completing repair jobs in a timely manner
• Maintaining clean and safe vehicles and shops
• Ensuring employees work in a safe manner
• Assisting with inspections and repairs as needed
• Performing other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

• Railcar mechanical experience preferred
• Background in welding and cutting
• Valid driver’s license
• Good communication and people skills
• Demonstrated ability to develop teamwork and collaborate with all levels of personnel

Environmental and Physical Requirements

• Able to perform physically strenuous work
• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
• Occasional use of 30 lb claw bar, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
• Occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
• Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails, and ballast safely
• Able to navigate confined spaces if necessary
• May perform duties in indoor shop or outside environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment
• Frequent exposure to weather elements
• Wearing of appropriate PPE required
