Job Summary

The Intermodal Yard Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the terminal's operations to ensure service levels meet customer requirements. This person follows Company, Vice Presidents, Assistant Vice Presidents, Directors, Assistant Terminal Managers, and Terminal Managers' policies and procedures.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the scheduling and coordination of intermodal activities, including ramping and de-ramping of trailers and containers based on business-level needs.

  • Affirms personnel meet productivity goals and maintain acceptable service levels according to company standards.

  • Prioritizes outbound trailer loads to meet train schedules and customer requirements; interacts directly with customers for spotting and pulling intermodal trains.

  • Designates equipment availability to meet customer needs and ensures operation security.

  • Assists in company safety policies by upholding a high standard for all employees.

  • Monitors intermodal freight handling to ensure cost-effectiveness for the company while meeting customer service standards.

  • Coordinates inbound and outbound trains to ensure accuracy and securement, and maintains unit security.

  • Determines manpower levels, schedules, and assigns duties.

  • Prioritizes outbound trailer loads to meet train schedules and manages empty return programs.

  • Maintains contact with Assistant Terminal Managers and Terminal Manager for informational and recommendation purposes.

  • Directs customer interactions to ensure all requirements are met and operates within the intermodal yard's security.

Qualifications

  • Valid Drivers License.

  • Advanced knowledge of the railroad industry from vocational education, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, or similar supervisory work experience.

  • Ability to assist in conflict resolution and mediation between co-workers.

  • Proven managerial skills, including leadership, motivation, employee training, understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements, government regulations, and industry standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with various individuals.
