Rail Jockey Driver

About the role

Pacific Rail Services is hiring union employees at Norfolk Southern’s Rutherford Rail Terminal in Harrisburg, PA. This position offers a hands-on career in a recession-proof industry.

Responsibilities

• Drive jockey trucks to move trailers, containers, and chassis around the railyard.
• Climb railcars, secure tracks, unlock tracks, prep railcars for loading and handle inner box connectors.
• Auxiliary crane operators with hand signals.
• Stack and unstack chassis, load and unload chassis racks.
• Work as part of a team to keep the yard running smoothly.

Requirements

• Must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license.
• Pass a 7-year background check.
• Pass drug test and physical capabilities test.
• No diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills.
• Must live within 45 minutes of Harrisburg, PA (no relocation).

Pay and Benefits

• Start at $20.50 per hour.
• Overtime pays $30.75 per hour.
• After one year: $22.44 per hour.
• Annual earning potential: $55,000 to $70,000 with overtime.

Schedule

• 8-hour shifts with a mandatory 4-hour holdover when necessary (up to 12 hours total).
• Current shift start times: 10AM or 10 PM.
• Weekends and holidays required.
