Responsibilities
- Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
- Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
- Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
- Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
- Captures Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
- Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
- Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
- Aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
- Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
- Adheres to infection control practices.
- Asks females of child-bearing age if they may be pregnant.
- Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in child-bearing age.
- Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure.
- Completes Annual Mandate Radiation Safety.
- Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures.
- Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment.
- Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
- Completes Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
- Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials, etc.
- Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage of the Radiology Department.
- Affords assistance in other areas of the department as work load permits.
- Keeps areas well stocked at all times.
Qualifications
- 2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program.
- Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training.
- American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT).
- New Graduates, Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license and BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
