Responsibilities

  • Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
  • Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
  • Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
  • Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
  • Captures Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
  • Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
  • Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
  • Aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
  • Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
  • Adheres to infection control practices.
  • Asks females of child-bearing age if they may be pregnant.
  • Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in child-bearing age.
  • Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure.
  • Completes Annual Mandate Radiation Safety.
  • Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures.
  • Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment.
  • Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
  • Completes Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
  • Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials, etc.
  • Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage of the Radiology Department.
  • Affords assistance in other areas of the department as work load permits.
  • Keeps areas well stocked at all times.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program.
  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training.
  • American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT).
  • New Graduates, Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license and BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
