Key Responsibilities
- Administers ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosis which includes positioning the x-ray beam with respect to the patient, anatomically positioning the patient, selecting exposure factors, and initiating exposure.
- Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
- Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
- Adheres to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) safety principle.
- Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
- Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
- Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
- Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested.
- Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
- Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts, from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination.
- Maintains situational awareness and monitors patient and equipment during procedures, accurately documenting exam times (start and stop), patient reactions or problems, and reporting concerns or issues immediately to supervisor.
- Documents patient and exam occurrences in the appropriate Imaging software database, to include exam start and complete times.
Quality of Care
- Provides evidence-based care so as to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
- P Practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
- Complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions.
- Complies with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental statutes, policies, and procedures.
Patient Satisfaction
- Regularly applies AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You) as well as other evidence-based behaviors when taking care of patients.
- Shows empathy care to patients and family members present.
- Actively helps the department meet the identified Patient Satisfaction goal.
- Demonstrates regular attendance and participation at scheduled department and team meetings.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program.
- Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS).
- Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
- American Heart Association BLS.
Preferences
- Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT, Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT), or the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Special Position Requirements
- Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. Other potential hazards: exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.
Work Requirements
- Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, compliant with KHI vision, mission, and values.
- Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.
- Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.
- Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.
- Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.
- Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
