PURPOSE AND SCOPE
Serves the organization's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the organization's Compliance Program, including regulatory and policy requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares the patient and procedure room for radiology procedures in compliance with policies and procedures and state/federal regulations.
- Reviews patient-specific procedure orders to determine materials/supplies needed.
- Sets up and stocks the procedure room/trays with all necessary supplies and interventional equipment before the procedure and cleans the room post-procedure.
- Explains the procedure to the patient, answers questions, and addresses concerns.
- Assists with patient transfers and transports to and from the procedure room.
- Inputs patient data into the C-Arm.
- Acts as a scrub assistant assisting the physician during interventional procedures and administers fluoroscopy.
- Complies with HIPAA policies and standards regarding patient confidentiality.
- Draws up intravenous medication and labels according to the organization's policy.
- Processes x-ray images and archives them to the image repository, CD, or DVD.
- Supports and drives the organization's quality standards through meeting regulatory requirements and practicing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).
- Maintains integrity of medical records, filing paperwork in patient files, and performing audits regularly.
- Ensures environmental integrity and aesthetics by ensuring all areas are clean, sanitary, and safe daily.
- Maintains equipment and instruments in proper working condition by inspecting them daily before and after procedures.
- Makes recommendations regarding equipment replacement and repairs.
- Disposes of hazardous waste materials, dirty linen, and rugs.
- Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent waste.
- Attends and participates in Governing Body meetings, gathering data/material for meetings.
- Communicates effectively with physicians.
- Trains and orientates new employees.
- Aids in patient billing accuracy and timeliness by reviewing procedures, documenting equipment charges, and verifying CPT and ICD9 codes.
- Assists with inventory, ordering of supplies, and restocking supplies.
- Acts as Radiation Safety Officer; monitors radiation badges and conducts in-services regarding radiation safety.
- Participates in facility regulatory and accreditation surveys and action plans to address any deficiencies identified.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform patient transfers and positioning of patients up to 400 pounds.
- Must be able to stand in a protective apron for up to 45-60 minutes.
- 10% travel.
Education
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate’s Degree desirable.
- Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred.
- Current ARRT Certification and/or State Licensure (as per state regulations) preferred.
- Interventional Radiology certificate preferred.
Experience and Required Skills
- 4 – 6 years’ related experience desirable.
- 1 year experience preferred for Candidates with ARRT.
- Working knowledge of interventional equipment (including C-Arm and Ultrasound equipment).
- Experience with interventional procedures, using/ordering/maintaining required materials/supplies for each procedure.
- Knowledge and experience of sterile techniques.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and personal protective devices to be utilized when operating radiology systems.
- Successfully complete BLS certification.
- Experience with monitoring and maintaining inventory.
- Proficient in the use of computers and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
