Radiology Safety Registered Nurse- Vascular Access Program

About the Role

The registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of assigned patients and the supervision of assigned personnel. This role requires knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to the delivery of nursing care, along with interpretive, interactive, consultative, management, and supervisory skills.

The Critical Safety Nurse (Radiology) promotes and maintains quality patient care before, during, and after radiologic procedures. Responsibilities include:

• Receiving hand-off communication during patient transport to radiology.
• Monitoring and caring for patients during transport, wait times, and while exams are performed.
• Providing hand-off communication upon returning patients to their primary place of care.
• Ensuring quality care for outpatients, including monitoring patients with pacemakers in MRI, administering medications, and assessing for contrast reactions and extravasations.
• Maintaining a good working relationship with radiologists in the Imaging Department to ensure quality patient care.

The ability to retrieve, communicate, or present information in written, auditory, or visual formats is essential. Strong spoken, written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (required).
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or compact state licensure in nursing (required).
• BLS certification (required).
• ACLS certification (required).
• Vascular Access Experience (required).
• Five years of healthcare/nursing/patient care experience (preferred).
• Five years of experience in a critical care setting (preferred).
• CCRN or PCCN certification (preferred).
• CRN certification (preferred).

New to practice area nurses or new graduates have 1 year to complete the following specialty certifications based on their assigned unit:

• ACLS: ED, ICU, CVICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, Bronch Suite, Interventional Radiology, Radiology Safety Nurses, Step down Units (3A, 3B, 4B), 6A, 6B, 7A, Labor and Delivery, Hemodialysis, Respiratory Therapy, Float pool, GI Unit, and PACU.
• PALS: PACU Pediatric Nurses, ED.
• NRP: NICU, Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery.
• De-escalation training: BHU, ED.

Per policy, ACLS or PALS cards demonstrate competence in BLS per American Heart Association Guidelines. Employees holding current ACLS or PALS certification do not need a separate BLS certification.

The compensation for this position is determined based on qualifications, relevant training and experience, skill level, shift differentials (where applicable), internal equity, and current market conditions. The posted hiring range reflects the range VHC Health believes is appropriate for this role at the time of posting and may be adjusted based on business needs or market changes.
