Department Overview

We are comprised of 100 Radiologists, 28 residents, and 10 fellows, along with approximately 25 research faculty and 5 full-time educators, providing comprehensive imaging services through a fully integrated health care system in central Massachusetts.

Our Department

• Radiology clinical trials office and image processing core labs

Breast Imaging Division

• Covered by UMass Memorial's NAPBC approved Comprehensive Breast Center and multiple ACR designated centers of excellence
• Reads approximately 60,000 screening mammograms, 15,000 diagnostic mammograms, 12,000 dedicated breast ultrasounds, 2,250 breast MRIs, and 4,250 interventional procedures annually
• Comprised of 11 Breast Imagers and 1 Breast Imaging Fellow
• Operates in a completely digital environment across all UMass Health sites
• Includes six 1.5 and two 3T breast MRI systems, 20 tomosynthesis units, 1 2D mammography unit, 12 ultrasound suites, and 2 ABUS suites

Starting in Spring 2026

• Option to read from home one day per week
• Full-time breast imaging faculty allocated 40 non-clinical (academic days) per year
