Role Summary
Provide expert diagnostic radiological imaging and patient care to assure a high level of quality care and service to patients, physicians and customers in and outside the radiology department.Key Responsibilities
- Provide radiological services by exemplifying the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform a variety of radiographic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis
- Prepares room, equipment, contrast media, and supplies as necessary for each procedure
- Able to perform all procedures offered by the department and shows a willingness to learn new procedures and technology
- Selects proper exposure and technical parameters into the x-ray generating systems to provide the optimum image
- Interacts with the patient to address their concerns, obtain verbal permission to perform their examination, and respond to any needs stated or unstated by the patient
- Provides patient education to patient and family by providing an explanation of procedures to be performed and radiology processes
- Absorbs patient conditions requiring immediate action and assists in providing immediate care for life support measures
- Comply with all departmental and organizational policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, including OSHA, CMS, Joint Commission, and any other specific safety, security and infection control policies
- Maintains patient and radiology electronic health records following HIPAA standards
- Completes the required hours of continuing education in order to maintain certification in all assigned imaging modalities and completes annual clinical competency assessments
Qualifications
- Graduate of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology or military training in Radiologic Technology
- Completion of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program in radiology
- Certification as a Radiographer ARRT-R from American Registry of Radiologic Technology
- Current Medical Radiographer License in NE or a Diagnostic Radiographer Permit in Iowa to practice
- BL or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire
- Strong knowledge of human structure and function, radiographic positioning, selection of exposure factors, and preparation & administration of contrast media for routine and special radiographic procedures
- Experience with multi-dimensional medical imaging systems, patient transportation devices, and radiology information system and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon completion of unit orientation required
- Demonstrate utilization of knowledge and skills to meet age-specific needs of the patient population
