Radiologic Technologist / Nights

Shift: Tuesday–Friday, 6:30 PM–4:00 AM • Full-time • 40 hours per week • Location: Emory Hillandale Hospital

About the role

Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of the body for diagnostic purposes. Performs routine, portable, operating room, or fluoroscopic exams. Performs complex radiographic procedures and provides guidance to lower-level Radiologic Technologists and students. Positions patients, adjusts equipment to produce high-quality x-rays, and explains procedures to patients. Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation. Assists in training radiology staff and students, and participates in radiology quality assurance and quality improvement activities.

Effectively communicates with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Keeps patients and families informed of progress, explains procedures to reduce anxiety, and assists with patient/family education. Provides patient care during radiologic procedures, anticipates potential crises, and ensures patients are prepared for procedures. Sets up procedure rooms, performs multiple radiologic procedures efficiently, and completes all patient care documentation. Ensures billing accuracy by completing procedures in the Radiology Information System. Follows all safety requirements, practices radiation protection techniques, and uses personal protective equipment as required.

Operates, mobilizes, and positions equipment safely, sets exposure factors, and uses appropriate techniques and protocols. Cleans equipment, stocks procedure rooms, and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions. May participate on safety committees.

Responsibilities

• Practice radiation protection techniques (e.g., beam restriction, shielding).
• Use personal protective equipment as required.
• Operate, mobilize, and position equipment safely.
• Set exposure factors and use appropriate techniques and protocols.
• Maintain and clean equipment, stock procedure rooms, and troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Participate on safety committees as needed.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association).
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting: Up to 50 lbs maximum; 20–50 lbs occasionally (0–33% of the workday); 11–25 lbs frequently (34–66% of the workday); 1–10 lbs constantly (67–100% of the workday).
• Carrying: Objects up to 25 lbs.
• Postures: Occasional to frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting.
• Close eye work: Computers, typing, reading, writing.
• Physical demands may vary by assigned work area and tasks.

Environmental Factors

• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, and radiation.
• Varied floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient handling injuries, and shift work.
• Travel may be required.
• Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be necessary.
• Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
