Duties & Responsibilities
- Purpose of Position:
- Responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services.
- Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials.
- Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
- May perform radiologic procedures, as required.
- Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment.
- Participates in and coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
- Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service.
- Examples of Typical Tasks:
- Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
- Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
- Fulfills tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, as listed above, for special procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography in Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging or Mammography; and performs additional related Assignment Level III tasks described below, as applicable to this type of assignment.
- Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
- Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
- Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
- Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
- Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
- Schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
- Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
- Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
- Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
- Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., C.T., M.R.I., and Mammography).
- Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department with other activities and services and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings.
- May perform radiologic procedures, as required.
- May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate Supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
Additional Salary Compensation
- All Radiologic Technologists in Assignment Levels II and III shall receive a differential of $7,500 per annum to be cross-trained on different modalities of radiologic imaging and to be cross-assigned (once trained) to different imaging settings depending on patient volume and staffing needs within a facility.
