About the role
The medical x-ray technician takes radiographic images while performing diagnostic imaging examinations.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patient and their condition to determine proper handling and special requirements.
- Explains and prepares the patient for all radiographic procedures.
- Interviews patients and reviews available clinical data from charts in order to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contradictions for procedure.
- Relies on extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely position the patient for maximum diagnostic yield.
- Maintains radiographic equipment and x-ray rooms in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory personnel.
- Checks stock inventory and initiates orders.
- Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
- Communicates with providers on types of x-rays that can be done at JVH.
- Downloads reports and distributes them daily.
- Keeps disc for records storage.
- Orders UPT as needed on female patients.
- Must have working knowledge of electronic medical records and how to navigate within the system to retrieve material.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the Clinic’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Attains all agreed-to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission.
- Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promotes the education and development of students, interns, residents, apprentices, and other new staff by sharing expertise, responding to questions, and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of Associate’s Degree in a related or healthcare field.
- Registered Radiologic Technologist and state licensed.
- ARRT license.
- One year of work experience required in a similar field; additional education may be substituted for years of experience.
