About the Role

The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician, using x-ray technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems across the age continuum.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all types of diagnostic x-ray procedures, including radiography, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic, and portable fluoroscopy, while practicing radiation safety for patients, staff, and self.
  • Uses sterile technique as required.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors; performs venipunctures.
  • Competently operates all diagnostic x-ray equipment and support systems, including HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, and offsite Radiologist Services.
  • Utilizes department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and effective communication with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as assigned.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • Keeps area properly supplied.
  • Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature, and seeking ongoing development opportunities; attends departmental, educational, and hospital committee meetings as required.
  • Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal, and state regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of radiologic positioning, technical factors, and radiation safety practices.
  • Skill in operating radiologic equipment, image capturing devices, PACS, and other related systems.
  • Ability to react appropriately and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, family, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum.
  • Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment.
  • Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a school of Radiologic Technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Valid State of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
