RADIOGRAPHER I (TEMP)

About the Role

Utilizes ionizing radiation to create diagnostic imaging radiographs of designated anatomical areas in accordance with established practices and procedures for all age groups. Obtains patient history, explains routine procedures, and addresses patient concerns. Provides appropriate patient care following the Radiology Gold Service Excellence guidelines to achieve successful completion of procedures. Exercises professional judgment in performance following the Code of Conduct of the ARRT. Contributes as a team member to enhance job stewardship, mindful of internal and external customer service standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist the IR Technologist by circulating during procedures under direct supervision, including:
  • Verifying the correct patient and procedure.
  • Applying principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Positioning patients using appropriate protection devices and immobilizing techniques for age-specific patient populations.
  • Assisting with fluoroscopic, ultrasound, and other ancillary equipment.
  • Scanning items in Q-Sight, documenting in MiChart, and verifying images in Sectra.
  • Assisting with sterile tray set-up and completing room turnover.
• Gather supplies and equipment for procedures, including stocking rooms and serving as a runner.
• Assist the Radiologist in the IR suite while following fluoroscopy guidelines and proper contrast media use.
• Assist with organizing procedure rooms and supplies during downtime; review and pull expired items if found.
• Understand and apply guest relation skills following the Patient and Families First Principles.
• Work consistently as a team member, willing to assist everyone, crossing modalities when needed.
• Follow Infection Control practices utilizing aseptic techniques, observing Universal precautions, and patient safety standards.
• Possess a positive work ethic to enhance teamwork in a fast-paced environment and accountability for actions.
• When imaging departments are not in need of a student radiologic technologist, help with finding and testing radiology and non-radiology lead.
• Identify and enter data into the Radiology Information System and the PACS.
• Complete required mandatory competencies for patient safety, infection control, fire safety, corporate compliance, and patient confidentiality, including additional assigned educational modules for self-improvement.
• Maintain BCLS Certification.
• Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient's medical record.

Requirements

• Second-year student close to being registry eligible.
• Experience with all patients, understanding age-appropriate guidelines for communication, positioning, and radiation protection.
• Demonstrated excellent customer service skills utilizing critical thinking that shows ingenuity, creativity, and professionalism.
• Excellent attendance record.
• Ability to meet the Radiographer's professional role expectations, including:
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate and follow work processes ensuring patient identification, evaluating radiographs for image quality, selecting correct exposure factors considering patient size, age, and pathology.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing at a professional level.
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency, able to read and interpret physician's orders, process corresponding paperwork using typing and computer skills, and communicate with patients and families.
  • Display compassion, empathy, and professionalism in interactions with all customers and co-workers, fostering an atmosphere of respect.
  • Demonstrate sufficient locomotor and dexterity skills necessary for safe healthcare delivery.
  • Push, pull, assist, and transfer patients from transportation devices to and from the radiography table without injury to self, patient, or others.
  • Push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to work standing on feet 90% of the time, wear lead aprons for a minimum of 2 hours, and walk up to 5 miles during a normal workday.
  • Physical dexterity using fine motor skills to position the radiographic tube, procedure room booms, and monitors to desired height and angle, using push buttons, knobs, and various controls.
  • Physically able to administer emergency care, including performing CPR.
  • Use of sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch, and visual observation, including:
    • Auditory ability to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, and cries for help, including in environments where surgical masks are worn, such as the Operating Room.
    • Visual ability to assess patient needs for safety, observe technical factors, collimator centering, and all equipment utilized by the radiographer.
    • Tactile ability for manipulation of body parts to ensure proper alignment, necessary palpation for patient positioning, and manipulation of dials, buttons, and switches of various sizes.
  • Cognitive ability sufficient for patient assessment and operation of equipment and care of patients, including:
    • Concentrating and focusing attention on patients, procedures, and equipment performance for varying periods.
    • Responding to patients' changing physical conditions and the stressful demands of job requirements.

• Sectra PACS experience.
• Proficient computer entry skills, including MiChart.
