About the role

This is a full-performance technical position responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of radio transmitters, receivers, communication sub-systems, audio transport networks (microwave, fiber optic, and IP), voice logging recorders, speed control devices, in-car camera systems, and body-worn cameras in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install, remove, maintain, and repair vehicle mobiles, handheld portable radios, facility communication consoles, radio remote control units, in-car cameras, speed control devices, in-car computer systems, body-worn cameras, and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Install, remove, maintain, and repair conventional base stations, consolette transceivers, antenna and combiner systems, interoperability sub-systems, audio transport technology systems (microwave, T1/Ethernet, T1/DS0, fiber optics) at remote tower sites and agency facilities, including associated auxiliary equipment.
• Perform yearly routine maintenance, troubleshooting, circuit alignments, measurements, and programming updates for audio transport systems, radio transceivers, T1/Ethernet systems, conventional channel gateways (CCGWs), and NetGuardians at remote tower sites and agency facilities.
• Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation connectivity for NICE Voice Logger systems to agency phone sets, interoperability radio sub-systems, and Vesta 911 where applicable.
• Maintain accurate inventory and maintenance records for all equipment in the assigned service region.
• Order and maintain a sufficient stock of parts and supplies for assigned radio shops.
• Maintain cleanliness of shop and remote tower sites, including internal and external areas (e.g., dusting, mopping, trash removal).
• Perform monthly routine generator checks and fuel inspections for generators and HVAC systems at agency facilities and remote tower sites; ensure appropriate fuel levels at each site.
• Ensure yearly certification accuracy of all electronic test equipment within manufacturer and FCC-specified limits.
• Perform periodic function tests with the Demstel Phone System at each facility within the assigned service region.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
• Five years of experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment, with at least four years specifically in the repair of two-way FM radios.
• Candidates may substitute successful completion of a one-year program in radio electronics from a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of the required general experience.
• Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Technician (Communications), Signal Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/Communications Maintenance specialty codes in aviation communications on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Five years of experience in maintenance, repair, and installation of voice audio transport circuits (DS0) involving microwave, fiber optics, and T1 backhaul systems.
• Experience with P25 and TDMA Land Mobile Radio systems.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

• Applicants may be required to possess one of the following: Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator license, FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER) certificate, or Associated Public Safety Communications Officer (APCO) Incorporated certificate. License or certificate number and expiration date must be listed on the application if required.
• Employees assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license.
