Radio Board Operator

Overview

Sports Radio 99.9FM The Fan is looking for a part-time Board Operator to manage the technical execution of live sports talk programs, event broadcasts, network feeds, and play-by-play programming. This role requires a dependable and highly organized individual with experience operating broadcast consoles in high-pressure environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the broadcast console during live sports talk programs, play-by-play broadcasts, and network feeds.
• Follow and execute the game format log, ensuring proper airing of commercials, station IDs, and other scheduled elements.
• Monitor and adjust audio levels for a clear and professional sound.
• Log key highlights, game events, and notable moments during broadcasts.
• Seamlessly transition between games, programming, and commercial breaks.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and communicate effectively with producers and engineers.
• Ensure compliance with FCC regulations and station policies.
• Assist in the setup and breakdown of remote broadcasts when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience operating a radio broadcast board.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow game format logs precisely.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, live broadcast environment.
• Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Technical proficiency with studio equipment, including faders, audio consoles, and automation systems.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with producers, hosts, and engineers.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in sports broadcasting or a similar live production environment.
• Familiarity with broadcast automation systems (e.g., WideOrbit, AudioVault, or similar).
• Knowledge of FCC regulations and broadcast industry standards.
• Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, or similar).
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively.
• Strong understanding of sports terminology, rules, and game flow to anticipate key broadcast moments.
• Previous experience with remote broadcasts and live event production.

Physical Demands

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods while operating broadcast equipment.
• Manual dexterity to control audio consoles, faders, and other studio equipment.
• Ability to wear headphones for prolonged periods to monitor audio quality.
• Occasionally lift and transport equipment (up to 25 lbs) for remote broadcasts or studio setup.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick reaction times for live broadcasts.

Work Conditions

• Studio Environment: Primarily works in a controlled radio studio setting with broadcast equipment.
• Live Broadcasts: Must be comfortable working under pressure with tight deadlines and quick decision-making.
• Variable Hours: Requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on game schedules and station needs.
• Remote Broadcasts: May occasionally work off-site for live events or special broadcasts, requiring some travel and setting up equipment.
