RADIATION THERAPIST II

Position Summary

The Radiation Therapist II is an experienced radiation therapist who provides accurate radiation treatment to patients as prescribed by the radiation oncologist. They develop a positive, trusting, caring, and professional relationship with patients and coworkers. Responsibilities include administering therapeutic radiation, preparing and constructing equipment, positioning patients for treatment, communicating with patients and families, and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Administers therapeutic radiation to patients under the supervision of the radiation oncology team.
• Develops and maintains equipment used for radiation therapy, ensuring patient safety and treatment accuracy.
• Positions patients for treatment, utilizing treatment devices as prescribed, and ensures accuracy according to radiation oncologist's prescription.
• Administers prescribed doses of radiation to the specified target areas of the patient's body using radiation therapy equipment.
• Maintains equipment and performs safety and quality checks to ensure proper operation.
• Communicates treatment machine issues to radiation oncology leaders and operating engineers.
• Trains and supervises Radiation Therapy students or newly hired radiation therapists.
• Collaborates with medical physics and equipment engineers to complete daily machine QA and patient specific QA as requested.
• Maintains accurate and timely records, including radiation dosages, elapsed days, equipment settings, and patients' reactions.
• Works independently to prioritize tasks and carry out work with flexibility for volume variances.
• Follows safety protocols and policies, completes required education assignments, and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Certified Radiation Therapist.
• Maintains ARRT (T) and CPR certifications.

Qualifications

• None specified; however, sufficient education to meet the standards for achievement of the required license and/or certification.
