Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Career as a member of the radiation oncology team with knowledge of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment.
- Coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including CT, MRI, and PET when indicated.
- Supervise, perform, or assist in the planning of the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
- Supervise the therapist staff in the implementation of the treatment plan, including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment variables.
- Provide physics and technical support to the Medical Physicist, in radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation oncology equipment.
- Participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
- Ensure the care and safety of patients undergoing radiation therapy and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation to patients.
- Provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Document treatment accurately and meet current standards and policies.
- Able to assess patient pain and make appropriate physician/nurse contact for intervention.
- Assists in maintaining basic records and reports, files, and training of students and ancillary personnel.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family, treating them with respect and dignity.
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Checks prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification.
- Explains procedures to the patients, means of communication during treatment, and procedure to follow if an emergency arises during treatment.
- Documents treatment accurately, including Mu's, cumulative doses, treatment parameters, instructions, diagrams, photos, and all billing information.
- Maintains the scheduling and daily logs for the assigned treatment unit with efficiency and productivity in mind.
- Performs treatment simulation and all that is required for procedure including cerrobend block fabrication.
Minimum Requirements
- High School graduate; BS degree preferred
- Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained
- Graduation from a 12-month course in Radiation Therapy Technology
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Certified by the State of Wyoming to practice and administer radiation
- One year of experience under a Board Certified Radiologist/Radiation Oncologist
- Capable of performing independently radiation therapy and dosimetry plans
- Communicates routinely with medical oncologist and medical physicist with regards to dosimetry planning
