Radiation Therapist
Role Description
The Radiation Therapist is a full-time, on-site role located in Hermitage, TN, responsible for delivering prescribed radiation treatments to patients with accuracy, safety, and compassion. Typical daily activities include preparing and positioning patients for treatment, operating radiation therapy equipment, and verifying treatment plans and dosimetry parameters in collaboration with radiation oncologists and medical physicists. The role involves monitoring patients during and after treatment sessions, documenting care and treatment delivery in accordance with policies and regulatory standards, and maintaining strict adherence to radiation safety protocols. The Radiation Therapist also participates in quality assurance checks, contributes to a supportive, patient-centered environment, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary oncology team to optimize clinical outcomes.
Qualifications
- Certification and professional standards: Current registration or eligibility with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy RT(T); compliance with professional and ethical standards.
- Techincal and safety expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety practices and protocols, including safe operation of radiation therapy equipment and adherence to dose limits and shielding requirements.
- Clinical treatment planning skills: Experience applying dosimetry principles, interpreting treatment plans, and accurately delivering therapeutic radiation in collaboration with radiation oncology and medical physics professionals.
- Oncology and medical knowledge: Understanding of radiation oncology and general medicine concepts relevant to cancer treatment, patient assessment, side-effect management, and multidisciplinary care coordination.
- Additional beneficial qualifications: Prior experience as a Radiation Therapist in an acute care or oncology setting; strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and families; ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; commitment to continuous learning and adherence to regulatory and safety standards; BLS certification.
