About the role

Ensures quality of care and adequate protection of patients and staff in the use of imaging equipment and other radiation-producing sources. Assists in maintaining proper calibration of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures careful and quality use of radiation-producing sources and imaging equipment
  • Protects patients and staff from radiation
  • Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment
  • Participates in the research and development of new therapy modalities
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Quality Assurance program and ensures compliance with regulations of all governing agencies
  • Conducts equipment performance reviews as needed
  • Implements quality control procedures for imaging devices
  • Recommends radiation safety procedures to areas using radiation
  • Performs related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Current license and certification to practice as a Medical Physicist in NYS, required
  • License and certification must be in speciality area appropriate to area of assignment
  • Plus specialized certifications as needed
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required
