Position Summary

As a senior radiation protection technician 4 (RCT 4), you will perform the full range of RCT support activities and serve as the primary point of contact for planning, coordination of resources, and ensuring resolution of conflicting demands in highly dynamic and challenging conditions. You will need to demonstrate strong tactical decision-making abilities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serves as the authorized subject matter expert for the development of radiological work control packages (RWCPs).
  • Coordinates work area resources as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Fulfills customer radiation protection requests while ensuring established RP-1 priorities are followed.
  • Works effectively with customers and supervision to resolve problems, including elevating issues beyond your ability to resolve.
  • Anticipates and handles unforeseen issues with technical supervision responsibilities.
  • Provides technical leadership and review, contributing to substantial independent effort.
  • Demonstrates excellence in safety and compliance to RCTs co-workers and customers.

Job Knowledge/Qualifications

Senior-skilled level, requiring demonstrated skills and knowledge beyond those expected at Level 3. Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job, with assignments usually requiring substantial independent effort. May include some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor. Develops solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity, creativity, and independence.

Required Education and Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and four to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities.

Clearance and Health Regiments

  • This position requires a Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances.
  • Work may be outdoors and may be scheduled at times other than regular work hours.
  • Routinely lifts, carries, and moves materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to confirm tasks visually and audibly.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
